Two thumbs up for ManilArt! \m/

Mesmerized I was when I saw the paitings in ManilArt. Personally, I really don't have passion for paintings BEFORE but when I saw those paintings and pictures, I was like "wow! ano to?". Yep. That's right. Most of them, I really don't know what exactly I was looking at. But I kind of felt something that "Ay, gusto ko to kahit di ko gets" It's like there was magic or spell or something on the paintings. Somewhat O.A right? but I don't know I just want to share the feeling that I felt when I saw those paintings.

I really cannot deny the fact that even though I don't have passion for paintings, I enjoyed A LOT. Not only because of the paintings, but also because of the travel and the bondings we've had while going to ManilArt. It was such an adventure. By the way, I was with my very close friend in St. Scho and we had so much fun while roaming around the exhibit and there she is!

Tadaaa! And we kinda love this pic, though. ♥

Meet my close friend, BERNICE LAUDATO. But you can call her, Barney. :)

Okay, so going back, I would like to share the most striking art that I saw in the exhibit and it was the Human Art. They kinda use people's body to make an art? I don't know. That's what I saw on the television on the said exhibit. It was so gory. Sooooo gory.

The Human Art.
After attending ManilArt, there is this very one thing that I've realized about Art.

That art isn't about the appreciation that an artist will get from making his/her art. Rather, art is about expressing yourself freely no matter what others will think about you and your art. But of course there are certain grounds on where you have to consider and I think one of the most important thing that an artist must consider is Respect. Respect is very important not only for the artists, but also to all people. Art also reflects our personality and the inner quality of a person. Also, for me, it is through art that we are able to release our feelings and opinions about certain things.

GMA: Para nga ba sa masa?

3 words: I WAS DISAPPOINTED.

Yes. And I swore myself that I would never ever go back there because their system of accommodating people is very "bulok". The queue is very "chaotic", the guards are not approachable, the waiting area is OUTSIDE the building and guess what? we have been standing OUTSIDE the building for more than 3 hours which we should have not been doing because we have a reservation. Okay, going back, people don't even know where the queue ends. Unlike in ABS-CBN, according to my groupmates who have been there, their waiting area has mono-block chairs, it is air conditioned and the guards are not "paranoid". Watcha say, GMA?

Anyway, my groupmates and I watched Party Pilipinas last Sunday, September 25, 2011.

I was very lucky that I was seated near the hanging camera and the cameraman because I was able to observe some of their jobs. The first thing that I was able to observe was all of the camera men were actually "men" and since I came from St. Scho, I know that women can also handle such equipments because I can see my "ates" holding cameras during their T.V productions (which is very obvious and a little bit ironic because St. Scho Manila's MassComm Department doesn't accept men students) So, there's a question that popped inside my head... and this question was "kelan kaya magkakaroon ng mga camerawomen?" But then, I noticed that the cameras were so big and so heavy that even men who have muscles have difficulty in handling the big cameras. So, I understood why men handle the cameras.

Another thing that I observed was the people who organized the show. I wasn't able to know some of them but I kind of identified what were they doing. The woman I always notice was the one who always tell us to clap and scream endlessly and she was the one holding the thing that says "PALAKPAK" and the one who tells us when to stand up, etc. The other one that I noticed was a man who assists the performers when to start singing, I mean he do some hand signals to the performers and the performers will look at him. He was also the one who rehearses the performers before the show starts.

Furthermore, I wasn't able to take some pictures inside because it's not allowed DAW.
But I saw a lot of cameras when we were inside so I was, once again, disappointed in them. :|
the only pictures I had was when we are in line, waiting for the guards to call our name so
when can come inside.

Here are some of the pictures...

Unforgettable Studio Tours ♥

FM radio station: DWRR-FM 101.9 (Tambayan)
AM radio station: DZXL 558 kHz (RMN Manila)
TV show: Party Pilipinas

FM RADIO STATION
It was September 17, 2011, Saturday, when we visited the DWRR-FM Tambayan 101.9 radio station in ABS-CBN. By the time we got there, we were not the only guests who came but rather, also the Mass Communication students from the University of Makati and others are the friends of the disc jockey. DJ Charlie, the one whom we encountered at that time is truly very entertaining and friendly to his visitors. He is a Bisaya from General Santos City, Mindanao. We are being invited to cone to his segment which is what he calls ‘hot seat’ airs from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon. We got there just about 3:30pm as I remember. There’s a camera in front of him and when he talks on-air, he also has the body movements and the most important in radio, the vocal expressions. This was my first time to go on a radio station. And yes, it was cool! The access was easy in Tambayan.

PARTY PILIPINAS
September 25, 2011 is the day we went to the live TV show, Party Pilipinas. We became the guests of the director-actor Cesar Cosme, the husband of the friend of Yin’s aunt. We first encountered Direct Cosme from the taping of the high-rated comedy show in GMA network, which is Bubble Gang. All I can say is that he is humble, approachable, dedicated, and helpful on our studio tour. To prove this, he himself captured vast of photographs of us with his co-actors/actresses in the show.

MY SOLO FLIGHT JOURNEY :)

AM STATION
Today, rain or shine, I proceeded to the AM station by myself for the first time! \O/ Sir Buddy Oberas, as the station’s manager was very approachable and he accommodated my visit there. I roamed around the area and made friends with the people involved in the production. I think, the AM station is more difficult to operate than of an AM station because it is more of updating the news and only some for the entertainment. I had a great day dealing with such good people. I have noticed that the crew was dominated by men.

FEELINGS AND INSIGHTS

Going to a radio and TVstation is exciting for me and first-hand experience on how the production being produced is amazing!

The nature hiding behind the FM broadcast media work is more of the adlib version for entertainment. The challenges are not that intense compared to an AM station. DJ Charlie shares to us that his only secret for the listeners to stay tuned is to keep them entertained and enjoy their company. He possesses a good sense of humor which he uses to engage his listeners to him in communication. I have learned from him that broadcast media work is not that difficult if you are willing to do your responsibilities and at the same time, enjoy the work that is being given to you.

In AM broadcast media work, the nature of its production can be tough. Why? Because in this radio stations, the topics being presented are more of the serious things that can go to a point which can harm your life. Several media practitioners here are dedicated in their jobs. The truth are being pointed out and a lot of them here are courageous activists. Specifically speaking, the major agenda of AM stations is to deliver quality information and this could also refer to politics.

TV productions are very interesting to handle. In the Philippines, where the people are mostly influenced by the television, TV programs have a huge impact in making a role for the viewers. Their challenge is to send their messages responsibly intact with moral and integrity.

I prefer working on a FM radio station, maybe. I wanted to explore and experience how to be a disc jockey there for entertainment... within that capacity. :)

MANILART 2011: Identifying Filipinos' Identities

On August 25, 2011, Thursday, we went to Bonifacio Global City, Taguig for the ManilArt exhibit. It was my first time to go there and witness Philippine art displays. I bought a poster same as the one above worth a hundred-fifty pesos there for souvenir. :)

Philippine art is very influence to the youth like me. It reflects of our culture, tradition, heritage, history, and beliefs in several aspects. From Taft Avenue going to Taguig, my groupmates and I traveled together. Our long travel alone became a bonding time to us and spent that day with full of enthusiasm. My unforgettable moment going there would be the moment when we almost lost our way going to the destination. I have never been afraid because I know that we would help each other on making our way to the right path as a team. Luckily, in the bus, the bus driver guided us so we arrive to the exhibit. I felt the feeling of accomplishment of getting there. Ha-ha! Amazed, mesmerized and adored – the three reactions I encountered from myself upon seeing the artworks.

CHIZ MHIZ by Crap
I can say that the artwork shown above is well-expressed. It woke my nerves up because I saw that big Chiz Whiz look-alike bottle cap with the ears below it which made the appearance of the artwork meaningful to the viewers. For my own point of view according to my own interpretation, the artwork makes us realize that a rumor (Chiz Mhiz cap) spreads out very quick which makes it available to the listening ears of the crowd. Several ears could hear and create meanings depending on their own beliefs. Craft became Crap – rumors are truly products of crap and not of craft. It is a waste of time to discuss about circumstances or information which are unverified.

If I will be asked to make a film using this painting as inspiration, my story would be about a public figure that is talked about just because of one huge rumor he/she encountered. The spreading of his/her controversy is uncontrollable for the reason that it reaches the public and travels through different channels of communication.

COW LOUIS VUITTON
I like the artwork because the first impression that came into my mind is about the campaign for animal rights. It makes me feel glad that artists also express their stand through the use of their artworks in order that people will come to realize the importance of animals in our daily lives. It may help to reduce the consumption of the limited animals which are turned into branded bags like Louis Vuitton and all that.
If asked to make a film using this as an inspiration, I would make a film that would open the eyes of the human race to the abuse that is being made to animals like cows, snakes, bears, etc. The scenario would focus on the availability of these creatures which are scarce. In the end, people will become aware of the significance of animals in our daily living.

TV show

Another requirement for our major class is the visit to tv shows. So we grabbed the chance to go to ABS-CBN, GMA and TV5. I never thought that making reservations for tv shows was difficult. It’ll need time so you have to do the reservation in advance.
And since I was able to enter ABS and GMA, I can now compare which is better.  For me, ABS-CBN is absolutely better than GMA. Not that I am being bias, but really. I watched Happy Yipee Yehey and Party Pilipinas, and I can tell that GMA sucks. First is because of their system. They don’t have event marshal unlike in ABS-CBN that their security is different from the marshals. Everything is not organized and they don’t have designated waiting area for the audience. We’ve waited for 3 hours OUTSIDE their gate on a very sunny day, without chairs so we have to stand up the whole time unless we want to sit on the ground. And because they don’t have marshal, the security has to do the things the marshals are supposed to do. From the gate, they have to call our names, without any microphone or speaker, and they’ll bring us inside and go back to the gate to do the same for the rest of the audience (super bulok na sistema ). Upon entering, I thought we could already sit, but I was wrong. We again waited OUTSIDE the studio while standing under the bright sun.

After waiting for so long, we finally got in the studio. Another reason to hate GMA? Cameras are not allowed inside! How the hell are we gonna document the show? No choice. We have to use our cellphones to take pictures inside. The smell inside was killing me. I have asthma and it smells like varnish inside. Oh how I hate GMA ( sorry sa mga kapuso ). Before the shows starts, many people were still entering the studio even though it is already full. They don’t have chairs anymore so they have to stand up,  on the side behind the cameras,  the whole time (see how their system sucks! Why let people in when the studio can’t accommodate them anymore? ).
The productions are boring. I found myself falling to sleep because I wasn’t enjoying the show. The floor manager asks us to clap and shout but we didn’t. There’s nothing to clap at, nothing great is going on. She got pissed  (LOL). Why clap for something you don’t like? I’m not being harsh. It’s just that I don’t appreciate what they’re doing. The only thing that’s great was their effects, nothing else.
They are not prepared, I can tell because it’s obvious. They are out of tune during the rehearsals, their dance numbers are not choreographed well. Maybe it is, but they’re not doing it well. I don’t know why do the people love them so much, specially the die-hard fans. They run after the cars just to see the artists? Come on. Anyway, I can’t do anything about that. It’s their life, they chose to live it that way.
If you are on the live set, you can tell that the studio is small. When you see it on TV, it’s big. What’s making it big? The place where the camera is located and the angle. On the live set, the lights are too bright! The colors aren’t nice, and you won’t like to look at it. But on TV, it is great. It works well for the cameras only. EVERYTHING is better on TV. Even the sounds. On live, it is distorted. It’s noise not music. When you watch it on TV, you’ll think that the audience are clapping and shouting, but no. The clapping and shouting sound is just recorded.

So if I were to be asked, I would still choose TV over radio. But of course, not on GMA. ABS-CBN is FAR better than GMA. I would like to work on TV because it is fun. Even though you are just part of the research team, it is still fun because you’ll get to visit many places. I don’t care about the hours because you won’t notice it when you are enjoying what you are doing. Go MASSCOM!

Radio stations

As part of our requirement for our major class, we visited radio stations for AM (Amplitude Modulation) and FM (Frequency Modulation). This isn’t my first time so I already had an idea on what to see and expect. I visited radio stations way back in high school and I even tried speaking on air. I think AM and FM are somehow the same, except for the programs they have. For FM, their programs are entertaining- music, games, and news, but informal. For AM, their programs were meant to deliver news. It is formal compared to FM. Another difference I’ve noticed was the Hertz. FM have higher Hertz, like 101.9 and AM has lower Hertz like 558. This is because, I think, FM radio requires longer waves compared to AM radio.
So the first radio station to visit was Tambayan, 101.9 FM.

This experience was great because we got to see DJ Charlie, and he was really kind. He was accommodating and he really made us feel welcome. He told us that what he was doing is not a job but a career because he loves talking and he enjoys the things he does as a DJ.
He also told us that he wasn’t a graduate of Mass Communication so he didn’t expected, or rather he never  thought of becoming a DJ. It was his skill and passion that brought him to this kind of profession.

Since we are Mass Communication students, we are asked to observe the things being done in a radio station. What I first noticed was the place. I’ve been to different radio stations and I can say that this one is among the best. It is clean and it is quite huge compared to other stations I’ve visited. The aura is really like of a ‘tambayan.’ Next were the gadgets. It is like the one we have at St. Scholastica’s. It is high-tech I must say. The ones I’ve seen before were big and were hard to control.

Before we leave, we were allowed to take pictures on his chair as if we were the DJs. It was really great. We’ve seen him talking on air and he told us that it was called “Creative Adlib” usually done in the afternoon. It was plain adlib- greetings, time check, a little “kulitan” with the people inside the station then the music will play again.

Next was the AM station, DZXL.

As expected, AM radio is more formal rather than FM so we were asked to give our letter before entering the station.
The place is quite different from FM radio stations because its aura is gloomy. For me, AM radio isn’t enjoyable unless you really want news. I think, I wouldn’t listen to AM radio if not for news. AM radio will give us formal and reliable news. Well, AM also offers music and stuff, but their music are old. I tried listening to AM for music but I ended up going back to FM because I can’t recognize their music anymore. They play kundiman and the like so I don’t really know it. Even my dad who is 43 years old doesn’t know the music they are playing.
I think the oldies will enjoy listening to AM. (laughs)
What I observed this time is the way they deliver the news. Seeing them in actual made me realize how great they are, because when I listen, it’s as if I am listening to a different person ( parang hindi sila yung nagsasalita ). It’s really cool. I am amazed by the way they are doing their work. They speak fast but clear. They are fluent, they speak straight.

So that was my experience for AM and FM radio. :)
